Bill Henry Smith of Hermiston, Oregon passed away at his home on April 24, 2016 at the age of 74 surrounded by family and loved ones.  
Bill was born in Hood River, Oregon to Roy and Charlotte Smith.  He spent his childhood and attended school in Parkdale, Oregon.  
When he was 17 he moved to New Mexico where he held numerous jobs.  He met his first wife, Joyce Peterson while in New Mexico and they were married in 1961.  Bill gained a stepdaughter, Debra Jean, from this union.  Bill and his family returned to Oregon that same year.  Bill and Joyce had two sons; Edward Allen born July 23, 1961 and Michael Henry born August 14, 1963.  
Bill married his second wife, Lorraine Shull, on March 25, 1968.  Bill and Lorraine had a daughter, Monica Rae, born March 29, 1968 and a son, Tracy Elliott, born March 9, 1969.  
Bill went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1961.  He started his long career as a Section Hand with the Maintenance of Way Unit.  He held many different positions with UPRR to include, Section Foreman, Gang Foreman, Track Inspector and Heavy Equipment Operator.  Bill retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2003 with 43 years of service.  
Bill is proceeded in death by his parents, Roy and Charlotte Smith; brother Stephen Atteburry; daughter Debra Meikle; and granddaughter Melissa Frye.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine, of Hermiston; brother Mert Smith of Umatilla, Oregon; son Edward Frye of Bremerton, Washington; Son and daughter-in-law Mike and Gayle Frye of Port Orchard, Washington; daughter Marlene Cornelison of The Dalles, Oregon; daughter and son-in-law Monica and Al Rafferty of Hermiston, Oregon; and son and fiancé Tracy Smith and Teresa Gates of Stanfield, Oregon.  He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  
Please join the family for a Celebration of Life on May 21, 2016 at their home at 80602 S Edwards Rd. in Hermiston, at 1:00 pm.
