So very sorry for the loss of this wonderful guy. I was at the specific location at the time and was able to attend the onsite special memorial in his honor. It was a very sad day as there weren't many of us stationed there so everyone bumped elbows often and became a tight group. I'll never forget the day of his departure as everyone lined the flight line and saluted and then he was airlifted away in a C130. His memory remains.

To the family of Staff Sergeant Austin L. Bieren,
My name is Thomas Etienne, US Army veteran and chair of the Veterans Caucus with the Oregon Democratic Party. Please accept my thoughts and condolences for your great loss in 2017. At the close of year, our caucus reviewed all members of the US armed forces who became casualties while serving abroad for our country and SSgt Bieren's death caught our attention as the only Oregonian who died in the line of duty during 2017.
From one soldier to another, I want to honor his service and ensure you that Austin's sacrifice is not and never will be forgotten among those of us who wore a uniform for our country. Please be well and stay strong in 2018 and beyond.
Respectfully,
Thomas Etienne

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Bieren Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Austin Bieren US Air Force Staff Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

I was on Bieren's basic training flight in 2010 and quickly made enemies with him. We both were stationed in Minot and there I nearly lost my life in a vehicle accident. He came to me to offer condolences and encouragement despite our differences. He was a very good man, and I am sad to know he is no longer here.

I am so heartbroken for your family. I didn't know Austin, but from what I've learned, he was an awesome, selfless, athletic, caring, and funny guy that stepped up to the plate to serve our great country. A True Hero.
Things like his passing we cannot understand, but I'm confident that God had/has a purpose, and that heaven has gained a mighty warrior.
Please know that his loved ones have been, and will be, in my prayers continually.
Peace and Grace To You All.

Let your memories of Austin's' fun-loving (mischievous) personality shine down and make you all smile. I know you, along with many of us who were privileged to "grow up" with Austin, are proud of his accomplishments, let that and his contagious laughter brighten your spirits when you feel sad.
