Val was such a neat lady. Unlike many, I didn't meet her until she moved in to Sun Terrace. I enjoyed having her there so much. She really added a lot of joy to my life.

Jim,Richard, Robert and Ron,
Your mom and dad were special people, and I consider myself lucky to have known them. Over the last several years, your mom and I would see each other--usually in the grocery store--and have a good visit. Frequently, our conversations would include reminiscences of people and events when we were connected to UHS. But your mother ALWAYS included an update on each of you. She was so proud of her family and her devotion to each of you came through loud and clear. ValRae had such a perky and uplifting personality that one always left a visit with her feeling better about himself and the world. She will be missed.

Jim, Rich, Bob and Ron -
The Taft family will always have a special place in my heart!
You mom was truly an amazing lady - so full of energy and good ideas. Her constant willingness to tackle a project and her special way of helping others believe that they could reach a little higher than the mark they had set for themselves are qualities that I always admired in her. As a teenager, I marveled at how she managed to keep up with you boys 24/7 and still have the energy to support all of your dad's work with the Umatilla High School Band, and other community projects. As an adult, I always came away from a visit with your mom impressed by her caring spirit and by her determination, no matter what, to make a positive difference in the lives of her family and others. I will always be inspired by the positive way that she reshaped and dedicated her life as changes necessitated it. I know how much she loved each of you and your families and how proud she was of all of you. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
May she rest in peace -
Kathy (Carollo) and Steve Eldrige

What a wonderful lady. The best partner at Kiwanis (she always kept the presidents in line), she involved the business community in teaching at Echo and my wife and I had great times with her when she came up to the North Fork John Day river to visit us. You will be missed dear lady.

Val touched the hearts of all who met her. Mom (Mary Lou) enjoyed living down the hall from Val at Sun Terrace and having conversations about our families.

I enjoyed seeing Val and joined her a few times when she was playing her crossword puzzles when I visited Mom.

I have many fond memories of Ken,Val and the Taft brothers. May you all have happy futures. May Val rest in peace. Now she has joined Ken and I'm sure they enjoy being together.

Heartfelt sympathy.

Jim, Rich, Bob and Ron, your mother was always delightfully warm and kind. She treated me as if I were more than just the guitar player, but almost one of you. All of you reflect who she was. You can be proud of that.

She will be missed by many.
