I was saddened to hear of Merv's death.
He and I went to gradeschool together and on into Junior High in Jerome, Idaho. I have happy memories of his kind ways and his friendship. I had to move away from Jerome when I was 13 and, regrettably, never stayed in touch.
From what I've read on the obit site, it looks as if he was a good man. I am sorry for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with Merv's family and friends. Merv was always the kind and inviting voice on the other end of the telephone line whenever I would call to talk with DeAna.
DeAna your loss at this time is great, but greater was the love and time you were able to share together as a couple. May he rest in peace.

Worked and played with Merv most of my life he always made such a difference in quality of my life and everybody else's around him.Best pool player in the county,I will so miss him flipping me shit.
Merv was always happy and had that great smile, one time I had to ride home with Bruce and Merv from Portland, it was a really bad ice storm and high winds, on 84 I was in the back seat holding my breath, a gust of wind would hit us and we would start sliding towards the guard rail, of course I'm freaking, he would look at me and just crack up laughing and say this is nothing. Had great times playing pool with him, especially when he would run the table every time.. Will miss him greatly😪

Merv will be so missed by many. His involvement in the football program at Heppner High School I know brought him much joy. We were so glad to have him be a part of that. He brought joy and leadership to many young men on that team and they will carry his enthusiasm, positivity and love with them throughout their lives.
I know for my son. Tommy, he learned so much from Mervin and looked up to him.
Every time I saw Mervin in town or at a game he was always a very bright light,, always with a big smile.
Thanks for some terrific memories Mervin...peace and love to your family

Merv was a great friend for many years. I can't begin to list all the fun memories whether it was playing golf together, partying or just hanging out together with other friends. I especially will never forget working with him on Tim Pyle's fishing boat in Alaska the Summer of 1983..He is gone way too soon but will never be forgotten by all who knew him..Rest in peace Merv...You will be missed!!

There's not enough good words in our language that can be said about Merv. He was a great great friend. Willing to do anything to help out friends or even strangers. So much fun to be around and do things with weather it was work or play, it didn't matter he just seemed to make it more enjoyable. Loved playing softball with him, playing golf, hunting elk or just tinkering on equipment and cars with him. His absence is going to leave a big hole in my soul until we see each other again in what ever afterlife there may be.

Merv was a great person and a fierce friend. So many memories of family events, camping trips, pool tournaments, hanging with the gang, and a lot of laughs. Merv deserved many more years. It is those of us left behind that are sad - it is not goodbye Merv, but until we meet again!

So saddened to hear about Merv's passing. What I remember most distinctly about him in high school was how happy he was every day! Always a smile on his face. Always positive. Always upbeat. And, always a kind word for someone else. I do believe that God has infinite words of comfort, truth, joy and love by which we can all remember Merv, such as those written in 1 COR 15:50-57.....

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

AMEN

Mervin was one of the nicest guys, he lived next door to my folks in the Rose Apartments for a while, was a great neighbor, hard working, and fun loving.
I am grateful we crossed paths in life, and hope to see him again in the great beyond...
