John Clyde Goodell was born Nov 17, 1936 in Nespelem, Washington to Jack and Edith Goodell, being the youngest of four children. He passed away July 25, 2015 at his home.  Known as a young man to many as “Clyde”  he attended several schools in northern Washington finishing at  Entiat.  He enjoyed camping and hunting with his father.
John entered the Army in 1955 on the buddy system with his best friend, Gerald Denison.  He earned his wings as a paratrooper and did radio communications. He worked in satellite communications and was recognized for assisting in communications with the Appollo 8 and Surveyor V programs. John left the Army in 1967 having served in Germany and Vietnam. 
John married Sandra Carver in 1992 and inherited her family of 8 children.  They lived in the Hermiston and Heppner area for a number of years where John operated an automotive repair shop.  John was an avid Seahawks fan, enjoyed long rides in the mountains, puzzles, and visiting with friends and family.  He was an award winning wood carver and a member of the Tri Cities Woodcarving Club. 
John was a wonderful Father, patient grandfather and a true friend.  He believed in a whisper over a yell and was a gentle soul.

John was proceeded in death by his wife: Sandra, his parents, a brother: Ward Goodell Sr., sisters: Laura Toal & Hazel Segle and granddaughter Christina.  

He is survived by his children: Warren Givens of Heppner, Or, Anna Hodges of Kentwood, LA, Paul Givens of Decatur, TX, Jason Givens of Ft. Smith, AR, Lucas Givens of Dell, AR, Frank Givens of Hermiston, Or, Dodie Qualls of Heppner, OR, Seth Givens of Pine Bluff, AR; numerous grandchildren, sister-in-law: Ollie Goodell of East Wenatchee, WA, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 
    
A private family gathering will be held.
