Fred and Arlene,
Kindly accept our condolences for the loss of your dad, Fred. After reading about your dad, I can only describe him as a "self made man" having carved out many successful careers in his lifetime. Some people never take chances and have limited experiences in life, but your dad clearly had the same pioneering spirit that built America. And we certainly owe him a deep sense of gratitude for serving his country for six years in the U.S. Navy.
Fred, I will never forget Gil walking into the Umatilla Metal Shop lab more than 25 years ago and diagnosing what was wrong with our metalworking lathe, then fixing it in about 20 minutes! To this day, that lathe still works and many students have learned new skills on it. Your father's kindness to others is one of the unselfish gifts that last as memories for a lifetime. And, in many respects you and Arlene have learned and lived Gil's life-lessons very well...and I thank you for this.
