Darrel Donavon Moncrief was born (Labor day) September 3, 1951 in Pendleton to parents, Darrel D Moncrief and Carol M. Eldrige Moncrief. He passed away peacefully August 12, 2016 at Regency Rehab Center, Hermiston at the age of 64. He had been ill the last eight years or so, after a massive heart attack where he spent three months at St. Vincent’s, Portland recuperating.

Darrel worked several jobs, however, his favorite was Inland Empire Bank (courier) for nine years and with the City of Hermiston’s Maintenance Dept. for four years maintaining the city’s parks.

He graduated from Hermiston High School in 1970 and spent some time at BMCC studying Criminal Justice classes. In his younger days, he belonged to Demolay.

He is survived by his sisters, Teresa Moncrief (Ray) Hermiston; Vickie Moncried Atkinson, (Morgan) Salem. Niece Dena Faulstich and her children, Tony, Tanisha, Armani and Trey all of Hermiston and his Step-mom Pat Moncrief, Hermiston. Also remaining are Aunts: Donna Henderson, Hermiston; Marcia Godinez (Dan); and their daughter Alyssa, Kennewick; Margie Moncrief, Hay Fork, CA; and Uncle Richard Grant, Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.

Darrel is also survived by cousins, Steve and Kathy Eldrige, Hermiston, Mike and Vickie Eldrige, Umatilla,  Rich and Terri Eldrige, AZ, Thelma Grant, Postfalls, ID, Patty and John Cermak, Beaverton, Tom Sturgeon, Hermiston as well as Robert Moncrief, George, CA Daniel Moncrief ,Yakima, WA, Roger Grant & wife Rebecca, Mulino, OR. He also leaves several of his long-time buddies from school, work, and bike buddies. Special thanks for the faithful visiting of Mike Eldrige and Dean Davis and his great neighbors who watched out for him and his little dog, Mindy.

He was married for a short time to Colleen Sowell and had a long-standing relationship with Sherrie Edmunds who passed away recently. He is preceded in death by both parents and grandparents as well as cousins Rick Sturgeon, Daniel and William Moncrief.

His saddest day was probably the day he hung up his leathers and sold his bike. He had great stories of Sturgis trips. He loved fixing up Grandpa Moncrief’s pick-up and NASCAR racing. He knew all the statistics with his favorite being Jeff Gordon, #24. He also loved his family, friends and will be greatly missed.
