On the evening of June 7, 2025, Ronald Rudolph Hosek passed from this life peacefully to his eternal home after a ten year courageous battle with cancer. He faced his illness with strength and dignity, comforted by his faith and the love of his family.
Born in Napa, Idaho to parents Rudolph and Stella (Burback) Hosek, Ron was the oldest son of four children and raised in the Portland area. He attended grade school at Our Lady of Angels Catholic School where he formed lasting friendships. After exploring work and college, Ron, joined the Army National Guard in 1970 and served honorably until 1977. Service to his county was of utmost importance to Ron.
In 1972 Ron began a distinguished 26 year career with the Oregon State Police. He was known for dedication to justice and his deep commitment to the citizens of Oregon. He spent a short time on patrol, and the remainder of his career as a Major Crimes Investigator, a supervisor of Major Crimes and as undercover narcotics supervisor for 8 counties in southern Oregon at District III Headquarters.
Ron was active in his communities. He was passionate about golfing, hunting youth sports, coaching football and baseball. Ron played on an Oregon State Police softball team that traveled to various communities and states, a memory he was so fond of. Ron was a cofounder of the Hermiston “Grid Kids” football program.
Ron was active in the Kiwanis Club and named Kiwanian of the Year in 1982.In 2000 Ron returned to Hermiston where he found joy in community service through the Elks and Meadowood Speech and Hearing Camp. He became a State Board of Directors for the program and was inducted into the Meadowood Speech and Hearing Camp Hall of Fame in 2014.
Golf was a big part of Ron’s life. Ron co-owned Big River Golf Course from 2007 through 2020.
Ron was above all else a family man. He was a constant presence in his children and grandchildren’s lives and sporting events. He was their biggest supporter and loudest cheerer.
In 2016 Ron married Susan from Othello Washington. Together they enjoyed a joyful nine years blending families, traveling, and always making memories. With their mutual love and respect of Veterans, they saw a need. Today, Pacific Northwest Veterans Alliance stands strong, assisting Veterans and their families with immediate assistance locally.
Ron loved his family, he loved his Lord and he loved his country. His presence will be deeply missed by family and friends. He was a man of honor, integrity and service to others.
Ron was a man of faith, honor and deep compassion. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Jeanette and Patricia.
