Nanette Schock Obituary

Nanette May Schock (Nan) of Irrigon was born November 6, 1963, in Baker City, Oregon. She was the daughter of Bob and Dorothy McBroom. Nan unexpectantly passed away in Kennewick, WA on May 16, 2025, at the age of 61.

Nan grew up in Baker City and Haines Oregon, graduating with the Class of 1982 from Baker High School. She married Avery Schock in Baker City on January 15, 1982, before he shipped off to Germany for their first duty station. Nan loved nothing more than being a military spouse, getting to travel around the world holding down the fort raising her 2 boys. Living in Germany, Fort Lewis Washington, Fort Polk Louisiana and several other locations during his career. In 1992, the couple returned to Baker City where they welcomed their daughter before moving to Vancouver, WA in the mid 1990's. In 1999 the couple ventured back to Eastern Oregon where they lived in Boardman, OR before finding their dream property in Irrigon, OR where they have remained for the past seventeen years.

Nan was always devoted to staying home and raising her children until they enrolled into school, then she took a position working at Subaru in Vancouver, WA as a Parts Manager. After moving to Eastern Oregon, she worked as a Baker/ Cake Decorator at Safeway in Hermiston OR before accepting a position with the InterMountain ESD as an educational assistant in 2004. In 2016 Nan became a Food Service Team Member with the Umatilla School District. She currently worked as a Kitchen Coordinator serving “little critters” at the McNary Elementary School.

 

Nan loved beach combing, collecting shells and checking out lighthouses. She loved going to the mountains to camp and fishing on the Columbia River. Nan loved spending time with her family and friends, but none was more important than her grandchildren, who she loved very much.

She is survived by her husband of forty-four years Avery Schock; Two sons, Brian Schock (Cara) and Jesse Schock (Ashley); Daughter, Ariel Estrada (Anthony); Five Grandchildren; Three Sisters, Diana Griffin (Jim), Carol Kleeb (Jack) and Kathy Hottle; Brother, Russ Backlund (Julie); Many Nieces and Nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by Grandparents Joe and Ada McBroom, Bill and Katie Saul, Father Bob McBroom, Step-Father Dorrell Spence and Mother Dorothy Spence.

A Celebration of life will be announced at a later time. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in care of arrangements.
