Michael "Mike" Owen Martin

Michael O. “Mike” Martin was born on May 3, 1955 in Yakima, Washington to parents, Owen and Betty (Johnson) Martin. He died on August 30, 2022 at his home in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 67 years. He was raised and attended school in Izee, Oregon before graduating from Grant Union High School in John Day, class of 1973. Mike was united in marriage to Peggy Melstad on July 19, 1975 in Forest Grove, Oregon. They settled in Hermiston, Oregon in the early 1980's where Mike worked in farming. He attended BMCC and earned his Associate Degree in Business Agriculture. Mike later became an electrician and went to work for Gordon’s Electric, where he spent his entire 30+ year career. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, had served as chairman of the Hermiston Municipal Airport Board and was very community minded. Mike enjoyed hunting and camping, aviation, football, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Peggy Martin, Hermiston, OR; daughters: Jennifer Bethers (Michael), New Market Maryland, Carolyn Dougan (Sam), Oregon City, OR & Kristen Coller (Randy), Hermiston, OR; father: Owen Martin, Umatilla, OR; sister: Debbie Green, Heppner, OR; grandchildren: Sydney, Ryan, Caitlin, Maddie, Brady, Ayla & Molly; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Martin in 2021. 
   
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 485 W. Locust Ave., Hermiston, Oregon.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon.

Those who wish may make contributions in Mike’s memory to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 515 SW 7th St., Hermiston, Oregon.
