Lonnie Carl Lloyd, age 84, passed away on May 24 peacefully following a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born to Alta and Carl Lloyd on October 15, 1941 in Albion,ID. He was the eldest of six children Nolan, Joel, John, Von, and Carla.
As a small child he lived in Almo, ID in a modest log cabin until they moved to Border, Wyoming, where he spent his school age years. He married the love of his life, Judith Kay Murdock, on May 7, 1965, in the Logan Utah Temple. Lonnie dedicated his life to education. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Washington State University in 1972 (later getting his Master’s degree from Western Oregon University), he began his teaching career in Burns, Oregon. In 1981, he moved to Hermiston, Oregon, where he spent the remainder of his 29-year career inspiring students before retiring. In October 2024, Lonnie and Judy moved to Mesquite, Nevada, to enjoy their later years.
Lonnie’s greatest joy was his family. Lonnie and Judy shared 61 beautiful years of marriage and a legacy of love. He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy ; his children, Jenifer (Jeff) Wilkey of West Valley, Utah, Gordon (Maryann) Lloyd of Layton, Utah, and Shane (Shawnna) Lloyd of Vancouver, Washington; as well as 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alta and Carl, and his younger brother, Joel.
A man of deep faith, Lonnie was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the New England States at age 19 and later served a second mission with Judy in the Manhattan Temple in New York. Throughout his life, he served in many capacities but always finding ways to teach and serve those around him.
Lonnie was an avid reader and traveler who loved golfing, photography, spending time outside gardening and walking. He found peace at the Oregon Coast and excitement riding side-by-sides on desert trails. Above all, he cherished the time spent traveling to visit his children and grandchildren.
Lonnie will be remembered as a lifelong teacher, a devoted servant of his faith, and a pillar of strength for his family. His legacy of kindness and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
There will be a time of visitation on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1035 SE 9th St, Hermiston, Oregon with a funeral service will follow at 3:00 P.M. until the Chapel.
Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon.
