Larry Hunter Obituary

Larry Hunter, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on February 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Even in the face of such a difficult illness, Larry remained true to himself—leaving behind a legacy of adventure, generosity, and heart. He was 64 years old.
Born on April 12, 1960, in San Jose, CA to Bob and Venita “Skeet” Hunter, Larry spent his early years in Turner before the family moved to Stanfield in 1975. By the age of 8, he was already learning the ropes of the family business, BD Hunter Roofing. At just 10 years old, he discovered a passion for motocross racing that would fuel his sense of adventure for years to come.
Larry graduated in 1978 from Oregon Trail High School, part of the Echo/Stanfield trial merger. In 1984, he became a proud partner in BD Hunter Roofing. A few years later, Larry married the love of his life, Brenda McAtee Campbell, gaining not only a wife but two sons, Ben and Tyler Campbell—roles he cherished with his whole heart.
In 1999, Larry and his brother Randy launched Hunter Brothers Home Builders, a partnership built on craftsmanship, grit, and family values, which they operated until 2022. Whether building houses or unforgettable memories, Larry was the kind of man who worked with his hands and loved with his heart.

Larry was most alive in the great outdoors. He could often be found in the mountains hunting deer and elk, or with a fishing pole in hand along the Snake River at Farewell Bend, the Umatilla and Columbia Rivers, or casting for salmon in Tillamook Bay. He had a knack for turning simple outings into magical treasure hunts for the kids—often planting trinkets for them to "discover." He never missed a chance to turn a moment into a memory.
He was the spark behind countless family gatherings and poker nights—often leaving with more IOUs than winnings. He treasured time spent at BS BBQs, camping at Jubilee Lake, Thanksgiving trips to the coast, and 4th of July fun in Ukiah with the Baileys.
So many of his greatest memories were made during the adventurous days of his youth alongside Charlie and Brett—stories of mischief, loyalty, and laughter that he retold often and well.
Whether visiting with his Golf Course Hill neighbors, stirring up shenanigans with Hano, Blakey, Peabody, Butch, Toots, and Doug, or joining Jeff and Kath at the cabin or Wyoming deer camp, Larry made everyone feel like family. He was known for his big heart, quick wit, and his ability to make anyone feel seen and valued.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Hunter; his son, Ben Campbell (Jessica); and grandchildren, Riley and Tyler Campbell. He also leaves behind his siblings: Mike Hunter (Theresa) and their children Amy, David, and Michael; Diane Evans and her daughter Jennifer Good; Terri Bailey (Paul) and their sons Larry, PJ, and Jerry Bailey; Rose Hunter and her daughter Victoria Hunter; Jim Hunter (Becky) and their daughter Katie Hunter; and Randy Hunter (Tracy) and their sons Dylan and Gavin Hunter.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Skeet Hunter; his son, Tyler Campbell; his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Pam Haney; and his dear friend, Charlie Berry.

With a fishing pole in hand, a barbecue chef’s apron, yard golf strings hanging from his belt, and a Kodak film camera always ready to capture the moment, Larry lived fully, laughed loudly, and loved fiercely. His legacy will continue in every story told around a campfire, every game of yard golf, and every heart he touched along the way.
