Janice "Jan" Maitland Obituary

Janice R. “Jan” Maitland was born on July 14, 1954 in Sunnyside, Washington to parents, James and Vera Baxter Barnes. She died on January 19, 2020 at her home in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 65 years. Jan was raised in the Yakima Valley, Montana and Pendleton. She graduated from Sunnyside High School in the class of 1971. Jan worked as an EMT for several years before moving to Portland, Oregon. She then went to work for K-Mart for 15 years and then at Fred Meyer until 2012 when she moved to Hermiston, Oregon. She worked at the Agape House in Hermiston where she loved helping others and the people she worked with.  Jan was an avid reader who enjoyed sewing, roses, the color purple and her dog: Bullseye.  

She is survived by her daughter: Chris Ruchert, Walla Walla, WA; son: Tim Ruchert, Brush Prairie, WA; sister: Jackie Leija, Irrigon, OR; brother: Ken Barnes, Prosser, WA; grandchildren: Kristopher, Tyler and Max; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jan was preceded in death by her daughter: Tamara Ruchert, brother: Mike Barnes and her parents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston, Oregon..
