Fred I Otis

Fred I. Otis was born on May 8, 1944 in Hood River, Oregon. He went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2020 at his home in Hermiston, Oregon with his family at his side at the age of 75 years. Fred was raised and attended school in Stanfield, Oregon, graduating in the class of 1962. He later graduated from Oregon Technical Institute. Fred married Janice Tucker and then served from 1966 until 1969 in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge he returned home. He and Janice had 2 children, Sandra and Scott before they divorced. Fred married Ruth Link Holland on September 5, 1992 in Hermiston, Oregon. Through this union, Fred gained two additional sons, Jeffrey and Michael. He owned and operated Fred Otis Realty in Hermiston for many years. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and he built over 100 bluebird houses which he installed in the Blue Mountains. His passion was for helping others. Fred had the talent and ability to repair nearly anything. His motto was “If a man made it, a man should be able to take it apart, repair it and reassemble it.” Fred deeply loved the Lord, his wife Ruth and his entire family. 

He is survived by his wife: Ruth Otis, Hermiston, OR; daughter: Sandra Otis, Sherwood, OR; son: Scott Otis & his wife Heather, Scappoose, OR; son: Jeffrey Holland & his wife Kelli, The Dalles, OR & son: Michael Holland & his wife Patti, Sacramento, CA; sister: Bonnie Van Bruggen & her husband Phil, Lincoln City, OR; brother: Johnny Otis & his wife Connie, Hermiston, OR; 5 granddaughters: Katrina, Janna, Karla, Marika & Cassandra; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents.              

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon..
