Dakota Grant Thurmond

Dakota Grant Thurmond of Hermiston, Oregon passed away on June 16, 2026. 

Dakota was born in John Day, Oregon on May 3, 1994. Dakota grew up in the John Day area and moved to the Hermiston area within the last few years. He worked for a number of years at KFC in Pendleton, Oregon and later at the Walmart Distribution Center in Hermiston, Oregon. In recent years, Dakota chose to be unemployed to focus his time on working on himself and trying hard to make positive changes in his life. 

Dakota was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether around the campfire, on a fishing trip, or camping in the outdoors with the ones he loved, he created many cherished memories with those who were close to him. 

He was once married, and with his ex-wife they had one daughter together. He is survived by: his daughter, his former wife, both his parents, three sisters, two brothers and many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members who loved him dearly. 

He is preceded in death by: both sets of great-grandparents, grandparents, one brother, and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Dakota's love for the outdoors and memories he shared with those around him will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and remembered. 

A celebration of Dakota's life and gathering of family and friends will be planned and announced at a later date.
