Carla Morter Obituary

Carla Annette (Miles) Morter

Carla A. Morter, 52, of Heppner, OR passed away at home Thursday, June 21, 2018 after a battle with cancer. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at the Hermiston Christian Center, 1825 W. Highland Ave., Hermiston, OR.

She was born February 16, 1966, the third of five children to Dexter and Corinne (Siggelkow) Miles of Heppner. The family moved several times between Montana and Oregon, but eventually returned to Heppner, where Carla attended Heppner schools and graduated from Heppner High School in 1984. After graduation, she attended Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, OR.

On Sept. 7, 1985, she married Roger Morter of Ione. The couple settled on a family farm on Sand Hollow and raised six children along with wheat and cattle.  Eventually they added a farm on the Kootenai River in Bonners Ferry Idaho, dividing their time between the two communities.

Carla lived a life of faith and was active in her church, Hermiston Christian Center, as well as in her children’s Christian school. She is remembered as an avid quilter and crafter, gardener, and a good cook, but mostly for her generous and welcoming nature. She was eternally thoughtful, sending cards and gifts on occasions others forgot. She opened her home to family and friends, neighbors and work crews, with a spirit of warmth and laughter and, of course, plenty of homemade food.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Roger Morter of Heppner; children Julie Myers and husband Matt of Big Sandy, MT, Brian Morter and wife Courtney of Bonners Ferry, ID, Chelsie Guardado and husband Chris of Park City, UT, Kailey Morter, also of Park City, Preston Morter of Lakeland, FL, and Carson Morter of Heppner; parents, Dexter and Corinne Miles of Heppner; grandchildren Landon Myers of Big Sandy and Hadley, Hailey, Harlow, Henry and Heidi Morter of Bonners Ferry; siblings Darrell Miles of Finley, WA, Craig Miles of Heppner and Andrea Di Salvo of Lexington, OR; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and by a sister, Michele Riehl.
