Austin Alan Wyatt
December 11, 1946 - October 7, 2025
Austin Alan Wyatt, a fearless man of vibrant character, boundless capabilities, and generous spirit, passed away at his home in Plymouth, Washington, on October 7, 2025. His genuine warmth and masterful storytelling ensured that any event was simply better because he was there.
Born in Fresno, California, on December 11, 1946, Austin spent his early life on the family farm near Basin City, Washington. It was here, helping to transform arid land into irrigated farmland, that he honed a strong work ethic and resourceful, hands-on skills that would define his life. This foundation led to a lifelong calling: the unmatched talent to fix, build, and create.
After graduating from Connell High School, Austin moved with the family to Santa Barbara, where he attended Santa Barbara City College, enjoying surfing the waves of the Pacific Ocean.
Austin enlisted in the U.S. Army and, following Officer Candidate School, was deployed to Vietnam as a First Lieutenant and Platoon Leader with the Army Corps of Engineers. His efforts contributed to the operational capabilities of U.S. and allied forces through construction and combat. Upon returning home, he continued his education at Washington State University and later ascended to the rank of Captain in the Army Reserve.
He worked simultaneously as the vineyard manager for Chateau Ste. Michelle while managing the family’s rangeland near Paterson. This property ultimately became home to the Ste. Michelle Canoe Ridge Vineyards and red wine winery. He also worked for neighboring corporate farms.
A consummate "fix-it" man, Austin possessed a rare and masterful talent for welding. He could weld anything, from repairing heavy machinery to crafting intricate metal sculptures, showcasing his artistic side. He generously shared his many skills, along with his expertise in operating heavy machinery and, of course, his gift for captivating storytelling.
Austin was a dedicated public servant for over 40 years, always putting the needs of his community and friends before his own. He gave decades of his time as a volunteer first responder and commissioner for Benton County Fire Protection District #6 and later served as a water commissioner for the Plymouth Water District.
Austin is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Lillian Wyatt, and his sister, Janice Anderson. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kimberly; his brother, Bruce; his sisters, Kathy and Sherrye; niece Melissa Cuevas; and nephew Devin Anderson. Austin will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
