Eugene H. “Gene” Jones of Hermiston, Oregon, was born on May 4, 1926 in Eugene, Oregon to parents, William and Corine Muntzel Jones. He died on February 6, 2018 in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 91 years. Gene enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 and served during WWII before he was honorably discharged in 1947. He was united in marriage to Betty Stuhr on March 2, 1957 in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho. They lived in Cottage Grove, Oregon for a time before settling in Hermiston, Oregon in 1970 where he has lived since. Gene worked as a conductor/brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Union Pacific Oldtimers, Hermiston Eagles Lodge and the American Legion Post #37. Gene put on a gruff exterior but it was easy to see through it and know he was a loving and caring man who would do almost anything to help someone.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife: Betty Jones in 2005 and by his parents.
