Doris Wicks Obituary

Doris E. Wicks of Hermiston, Oregon, was born on May 6, 1934 in New Plymouth, Idaho to parents, Elmer and Helen Lake Carpenter. She passed away on July 23, 2018 in Richland, Washington surrounded by family at the age of 84 years. Doris was raised by her grandparents, Alfred and Mary Carpenter. She attended elementary school in New Plymouth, middle school and high school in Midvale, Idaho. Doris was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Franklin Eugene “Gene” Wicks on June 17, 1951 in Midvale, Idaho. Gene was stationed in Savannah, Georgia for the US Air Force where Mr. & Mrs. Wicks started their family with the birth of their first son, Darrell. They returned to Weiser, Idaho for a short time where there second son, Steve was born. They moved to Pilot Rock, Oregon in 1956 and while visiting in Midvale son, Richard was born. Doris worked at Bulbaros Grocery Store for 5 years. In 1964, they settled in Hermiston, and she worked for Sigmans IGA. Doris then worked 23 years at Safeway before retiring. She enjoyed her co-workers and customers, many of whom remained friends for life. Doris and Gene then spent the next 10 years traveling in their motorhome before Gene passed away in 2010. She enjoyed working outside in her gardens and traveling with her family. Doris was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she enjoyed worship, bible study, and planning the music for Sunday services. Doris will be greatly missed by her family and many friends 

She is survived by her sons: Steve Wicks & wife Mavis, Parkersburg, IA, Richard Wicks & wife Gina, Hermiston, OR; daughter-in-law: MaryAnn Wicks, Kettle Falls, WA; brother: Gary Carpenter, Asotin, WA; cousins: Hazel Brown, Hayden Lake, ID and Sybil Irving, Stanfield, OR; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Gene, her parents, her oldest son, Darrell, and sister, Velma Lake.  

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Baptist Church, 555 NW 11th St., Hermiston, Oregon. Burial will be at the in Midvale, Idaho.
