Antonio "Tony" Yzaguirre Obituary

Longtime resident of Hermiston Oregon Antonio (Tony) Yzaguirre passed in his sleep on June 11, 2018 at the age of 96. Tony was born in 1922 in Eagle Pass, Texas. He served in WWII, survived the D-day invasion and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge campaign.  Soon after his discharge from the service he married Olga Moncada in 1947.  They were married 43 years, until her passing in 1990.  In 1949, Tony moved to the Hermiston area with his family and worked for 30 years at the Umatilla Army Depot until his retirement in 1979.  For a short time after his retirement, he worked at Simplot and Marlette.  He is survived by his sons, Bacilio and Tony (Rose), daughter Velia and his grandchildren Jesse, AJ, Christian, Evan, Caitlin, Tessa, Robert, Brian and Jacob.

The people who knew him would all agree he was a tinkerer and all around handy-man.  He never liked throwing things out if he felt he could make it work again, no matter how it looked after he was done with it.  He attributed this to the fact he was a depression kid. He kept himself busy after retirement, helping out neighbors with projects or simple home repair.  Starting at the age of 70,
Tony was blessed with 4 new grandchildren, with whom he spent the majority of his days.  Time with Grandpa was legendary.   He was known by everyone he met as a kind and caring man.

A recitation of the rosary will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 5:00 P.M. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston, Oregon.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon.
