Sandy (Mora) Hughes

Maria S. “Sandy” Hughes was born April 16, 1954 at Weslaco, Texas to parents, Francisco “Frank” & Elvira (Garza) Mora. She died Friday, April 17, 2015 at her home in Irrigon, Oregon at the age of 61.
Sandy was raised in Weslaco. On January 7, 1976 she married Loren Wesley “Wes” Hughes Jr. at Alamo, Texas. They moved to Irrigon, Oregon in 1979. She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Sandy enjoyed crafts, making flowers, making jewelry & rosaries, but her main hobby was her 3 sons.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Wes Hughes Jr. of Irrigon, OR; Mother, Elvira Mora of Huntington, OR; 3 sons, Wesley Hughes III of Hermiston, OR, Chris Hughes of Hermiston, OR, and Sidney Hughes of Pasco, WA; Brothers, Roy Mora of Huntington, OR and Joe Mora of Umatilla, OR; Sisters, Margaret Mora of Edinburg, TX, Gloria Graves of Huntington, OR, Mary Mora of Boardman, OR, Angie Escobedo of Fruitland, ID, Andy Montes of North Hollywood, CA, Toni Gaytan of Hermiston, OR, and Lydia Sanchez of Elsa, TX; 9 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Frank Mora; Brother, Guadalupe Mora; Sister, Dora Mora.   

Recitation of the Rosary will be Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Burial will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Irrigon, Oregon. There will be a luncheon at Stokes Landing Senior Center in Irrigon following the burial.

Memorial contributions may be to Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church building fund, 565 W. Hermiston Ave., Hermiston, OR 97838.
