Richard L. Layton

Richard L. Layton, 66 of Hermiston passed away on Sunday July 2, 2017 near Hermiston.
 
Richard was born January 21, 1951 in Pioche, Nevada the son of Earl and Anna (Shipman) Layton. He grew up and attended school in Blue Diamond, NV, graduating from Las Vegas High School in the class of 1969. After high school, he and his brother Ronald served together in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Mars. After his honorable discharge, he moved back to Nevada where he resided until moving to Corvallis, OR in the early 1990's. He moved from Corvallis to Hermiston in the late 1990's where he has resided since.
 
Richard was an avid fisherman and hunter and shared his love for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He was also very artistic and created many unique pieces of artwork giving many pieces away to family and friends.
 
Richard married Laurie Thorsheim on April 1, 1973 in Las Vegas. The couple divorced many years later.

He is survived by his son, Bill and his wife Tina Layton of Albany; daughter, Malissa Layton of Echo; sister, Connie Ohlandt of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Don Layton of Blue Diamond, NV; grandchildren, Derrik, Dustin, Bradley, Maleena and Makhi.
