Hildegarde Piersol was born December 14th, 1924 at Roseburg, Oregon to parents, Carl Edwin & Ethel Gertrude (Smith) Roselund. She died Tuesday, February 1st, 2011 at her home in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 86.

While in high school Hildegarde was a member of marching band and played bugle in Roseburg’s All Girl Drum & Bugle Corps. She was ASB Treasurer, attended University of Oregon on tuition scholarship. She was a member of Phi Chi Theta and Beta Gamma Sigma National Business Honorees. Hildegarde graduated with a BS in Business Administration. She married Russell H. Piersol Jr.(a U.S. Navy submarine sailor) her senior year December 10th, 1944 in Roseburg. After the end of the war they moved to Hermiston to help run the family business, Piersol Cleaners. Hildegarde was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, past member of the Hermiston Civic League, member of the Campfire Girls Board, the Hermiston School Board(1 year), the Hermiston Fire & Emergency Board(17 years), the Eagles Auxiliary, Leader of the Campfire Girls & Horizon Club(8 years), of St. John’s Episcopal Church & was a Sunday School Teacher, owned & operated "Sew & Sew" Center for many years, taught sewing classes for many years, hosted 6 Rotary Exchange Students, 3 from Brazil & 3 from Australia. Hildegarde enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, boating, picnicing, outings to the mountains & the coast, sewing, and gardening especially Iris’.

She was preceded in death by Husband, Russell H. "Russ" Piersol Jr. in 1988; Son, Michael Piersol in 2006; Parents, Carl & Edith Roselund.

 

She is survived by Son, Russell Allen "Spike" Piersol of Hermiston, OR; Daughter, Gail Ann Waisanen of Crow, OR; 9 Grandchildren; 10 Great-grandchildren; 1 Great-great-grandson; 3 Sisters, Clarethel Kahananui of Lake Oswego, OR, Audrey Healey Eugene, OR, and Virginia Kruger Of Roseburg, OR; 1 Brother, Gordon Roselund of Phoenix, AZ; many nieces & nephews.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, February 11th, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hermiston. Disposition was by cremation.

Memorial contributions may be made to OSHU Cancer Research or to St. John’s Episcopal Church or to the charity of your choice.
