Helen J. Hastings of Irrigon, Oregon, was born on June 4, 1936 in Berlin, North Dakota to parents, Joseph John Shockman and Eva Lutkin Shockman. She died on February 27, 2018 in Stanfield, Oregon at the age of 81 years. When she was a small child her family moved to The Dalles, Oregon and later settled in Hermiston, Oregon. Helen married Leland E. “Lee” Hastings on December 21, 1956 in Hermiston, Oregon. They lived in Stanfield, Oregon for many years where they raised cattle and she worked as a general contractor for over 40 years. She has lived in Irrigon, Oregon for the past several years. Helen enjoyed painting, camping, fishing and cherished time with her great grandson, Brenden. She was an avid Mariner and Seahawks fan. Helen was a lifelong member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She is survived by her daughter: Debbie Hall, Stanfield, OR; brothers: Donny & Butch, both of Hermiston, OR; sister: Josie, Battleground, WA; 2 grandsons: Kelly & Brian; great grandson: Brenden; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband: Lee; son: Michael; grandson: Kurtis; her parents and 9 siblings.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon.
