Dwight L. Bailey

Dwight L. Bailey was born on August 25, 1936 in Peabody, Kansas to parents, Paul C. & Nadine Worline Bailey. He died on December 11, 2012 at his home in Boardman, Oregon at the age of 76 years. He graduated from Palisade High School in Palisade, Colorado and then attended Colorado State College. Dwight then worked as a brakeman for D & RG Railroad before joining the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Janell Duke on October 12, 1958 in Fruita, Colorado. After his honorable discharge he became a rancher, doing what he loved for the rest of his life. In 1977 he came to Little Butter Creek and ranched there until 1995 when he sold the ranch. He then bought a farm and feed business in Collbran, Colorado. In 1998 he sold the business and returned to Oregon to operate his ranch in Boardman, Oregon, where he remained until his death.

Dwight was a member of the American Quarter Horse Assn., Racing Thoroughbred Assoc., Oregon Cattlemen Assoc., and past member of the BPOE. He worked with the Morrow County 4-H, Morrow County Rodeo Assoc. for many years and enjoyed working and being involved with youth activities.

He is survived by his wife: Janell Bailey, Boardman, OR; sons: Jeff Baily & his wife Jodie, Kennewick, WA, & Kenneth Bailey & his wife Kaedene, Heppner, OR; daughter: Nancy Gorham & her husband Kerry, Heppner, OR; 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston, Oregon. Burial with military honors will follow at the Riverview Cemetery, Boardman, Oregon.

Those who wish may make contributions in Dwight’s memory to the Pioneer Memorial Hospice or Celilo Cancer Center, The Dalles, OR.
