I feel fortunate to have known Don growing up in Hermiston. Words can't describe what he meant for family, friends and community. But I can say, he was a caring, giving, intellect, visionary individual that will be truely missed by those who knew him.

It was a privilege to know and work with Don when he was our band booster President. The trip to Vienna would not have succeeded without his hard work, leadership and vision. He was such a positive example to a young band director.... me .... and I will never forget the things he taught myself... and all of the students. He taught them that all is possible with dedication and hard work! Thank You Don!

Don was a special man ... and friend. The band trip to Vienna with the Hermiston band would not have happened without his efforts! He was tireless...positive ... full of vision...simply would not give up until it happened. He inspired me, the students, and other parents to work harder and press on. He taught us all that anything in life is possible with vision and hard work. I will always think of you .... you made us all better. Thank You!

It was my pleasure to work with Don as a City Councilor for John Day. Don was a sound voice for making solid public improvements and the fire station was just one example of his leadership. Many years earlier I was fortunate to have his son Jeff work as a CAPECO Youth Crew Chief who help weatherize homes for seniors. Don instilled a strong work ethic and a commitment to service which was on display by his son in his summer jobs. I send my condolences to Jeff and his family as well as the remaining members of the Caldwell clan. Rest assured that your Husband, Dad and Grandfather made a real difference in the lives of his neighbors and beyond, Don will be missed.
