You don't hear this term much anymore but my friend Beulah was my "Mother in Israel". I lost my mother when I was 7 years old and so my friendship with Beulah became a very important part of my life. I met her in the 70s when we both worked at the then Hermiston Medical Center she became my fast friend and mentor. At that time she was a single mom raising 2 teenagers and I was a young mother with 2 small children. Her daughter Susan even babysat for me a few times. Beulah became my friend, my mother figure, and my spiritual mentor. She helped me through a lot over the years. Beulah was always positive and trusted in God in spite of the circumstances of her life. She always praised God no matter what. I never heard Beulah say an unkind word about anyone and when the Hermiston SDA church voted to ordain female elders, she was one of the first to be asked,. Beulah helped teach me how to live a happy, positive life looking to Jesus. The unexpected death of her beloved sister Naomi was a tragic loss to her and the family and the scare and fragile health of La Greta her second sister has been a constant matter of prayer that she always shared with me. She would always say, "Pray for LaGreta, her health is not good", she never asked for herself but she would thank you profusely when you said you were praying for her. She made certain that she was ready to meet Jesus and that was her primary concern for her family. I have loved Beulah greatly. She was a kind, loving person who loved Jesus with her whole life. I am looking forward to seeing her again and at that time we will be walkin, leaping and praising God together again! My prayers and condolences go out to all the family and especially to Harold, Diane and John and their families who have suffered such great losses this year.
