Betty J (Leis) West

Betty Jane West of Echo, Oregon, was born on November 6, 1939 in Bayard, Nebraska to parents, William "Bill" Sr. and Eliza "Peggy" Johnson Leis. She died on August 16, 2016 in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 76 years. Betty was raised in Western Nebraska. She graduated from high school in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1959. Betty was united in marriage to Harold Landis “Lanny” West on June 5, 1964 in Scottsbluff, NE. They moved to Echo, Oregon in 1973 where they have lived since. Betty was the office manager for West Flying Service, the family's agricultural aerial spraying business.  She was an active member of the Hermiston First Christian Church, Hermiston, Oregon. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, sewing, and taking care of her yard.
 
She is survived by her husband of 52 years: Lanny West, Echo, OR; sons: Gary L. West, Hermiston, OR, Ronald E. West and Dean A. West both of Echo, OR; brother: William Leis Jr., Henderson, NV; sister: Jeanette Schnell, Scottsbluff, NE; a granddaughter: Suzanna Schuck, Portland, OR; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
 
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Leis.
 
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church, 775 W. Highland Ave., Hermiston, OR.
 
Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon.
 
Those who wish may make contributions in Betty’s memory to the First Christian Church or the Agape House.
